Reunion on July 10

Hello Family!

I want to invite you to a casual but FUN family reunion on July 10, 2010 (potluck lunch & dinner). Hopefully we can have annual reunions after this one. I want to apologize for my lack of advanced warning. The idea only recently emerged as my brother Lee and I were trying to figure out something for our mom’s 70th birthday (Joyce Watts Scribner). One of our first thoughts was to go camping with immediate family at Sulphur. We talked about how Sulphur was such an important place for our family. We both have such fond memories of going with our grandma (Leona Watts) every summer in our youth.

Sometime after that talk, I asked my mom why we didn’t still have family reunions like we did when I was a child. She told me that she thinks it’s just because no one organizes them. She commented that she missed them, but that it’s just too much work. I knew then that we must do this as a surprise for her birthday.

I understand the warning is short! It may not be enough time for me to find all of the correct names and addresses. I am going to rely on each of you to help get the word out. Included in this envelop are several copies of this letter so you can send it to those you know. I also set up a web site so you can keep up with things there or you refer people to it. http://burnettreunion.blogspot.com/

Since we’re short on time, I’m planning an easy event. Lee and I found a great little house 6 blocks from the park in Sulphur (Chickasaw National Recreation Area). We will be there from Friday until Sunday (July 9-11). The house will serve as the home base for the reunion, but I’m sure that we will be in the park as well. We plan to leave the house open so it can be come and go. I’ll make sure the house is easily identified with balloons or something. It’s going to be the perfect spot for us to catch up.

You are welcome to stay the entire weekend with us, or you can just come for the day. If you choose to stay, the park offers camping and there are many cabins. Here are some links:

Some of the activities for the weekend include swimming, hiking, catching up, camping, music (bring an instrument if you play one), picnicking, genealogy stories, and much more! Don’t forget your camera, sun glasses, swim suit, etc!

I know that it also may not be enough time for everyone to make plans to attend. If you can’t come (or even if you can!), will you please send me a short family story - or several – especially if you have any stories about my mom. I’d like to compile copies of the stories for us all – but that may take time.
